Xenophobia is Anti Progress!

20 May 2008

Press Release

Re:  Xenophobia is anti-progress

South Africa is a nation that forgets so easily.  Not so long ago when the people of this country were fighting the illegitimate apartheid regime we were fended and harboured by our African brothers and sisters from all over the Diaspora.  Now that we have attained our freedom we then see no need for these African brothers and sisters to come to our shores, with all the problems that some of them have in their own countries.

The African Peoples’ Convention (APC) notes with disgust and dismay the way in which our African brothers and sisters are treated in

South Africa or the Xenophobia tendencies that are currently happening.

We as the APC shall make it a point that our African brothers and sisters get the very same protection that was afforded to our former liberation movements during the dark days of apartheid by these very same Africans. As an Africanist movement and which is socialist in nature we shall make it a point that the spirit of our fallen African heroes like Kwame Nkrumah, Sekou Toure, Patrice Lumumba, Samora Machel, Mangaliso Sobukwe, Julius Mferere and others are revived and guide us to fight this scourge.

South Africans and the youth in particular need to be politicised and consciontised at the extreme.  That is why we as the African Peoples’ Convention (APC) feel that political education should be at the forefront and should be at the core levels of our structures.  Our people need to realise the role that was played by these African brothers and Sisters that have now become villains.

We are at the same time dismayed and devastated by the lack or the incapacity of the state machinery, particularly the intelligence sector to deal with the situation and curb this programme. People behind these kinds of programmes should be exposed.

When Zimbabwe faced similar threats the world over including South Africans condemned the decisiveness of the Zimbabwe State Machinery to intervene and deal with images of this nature which seem to be an orchestrated campaign by imperialist agents to destabilise our countries.

We call upon all South Africans to resist from pandering on the whims of people who want to destabilise and derail us on a path towards total emancipation.
